Best Margarita at A' Toda Madre Tequila Bar Manila Happy Hour. A'TODA MADRE is the first and only real Tequila Bar in Manila, serving over 100 tequila varieties opened on February 13, 2014 by Filipino-American brothers Aljor and Sante Perreras who used to live in California but moved back to share their love of Tequila to their kababayans. The bar is a work of art and pays homage to "Dia de los Muertos!" or the Day of the Dead which is a celebration in Mexico - with vibrant painted skulls recently featured in the Bond movie Spectre. They also serve Cali-Mexican food and for a bar it is surprisingly good.
When we were teenagers and tasting the different kinds of alcohol at house parties, Tequila was always taken as a shot with a slice of lemon and a sprinkle of salt. We usually gave it to the girls hoping that they would get wasted faster and it worked but they usually ended up spewing their brains out, the reason for those nasty hangovers is that the most popular tequila at the time was Jose Cuervo Gold made from 51% blue agave and 49% sugars, it’s the sweetness that causes those headaches in the morning aside from drinking like there is no tomorrow.
In Mexico Tequila is like Champagne as it has a designation of origin that is protected and is meant to be sipped rather than downed. Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, Mexico. For those who know better make sure you have a drink from a Tequila that is only 100% blue agave. Swirl it around to expose the aromas then sip and enjoy as it has a bolder flavor with stronger aromatics from the agave.
To start order their margarita de casa which is made with 1800 Tequila, take note that A Toda Madre only serves 100% agave Tequila. We tried both the frozen and regular, stick with the non frozen to experience more flavor. They have a daily Happy Hour from 5PM – 8PM. The also serve Mexican beers like Corona and Sol to chase down those Margaritas.
The two basic categories of tequila are mixtos and 100% agave. Mixtos use no less than 51% agave, with other sugars making up the remainder. Mixtos use both glucose and fructose sugars.
From their food menu we highly recommend: Grilled Steak Skewer, Birria de Res, Tostaditas with Chipotle Shrimp, Nachos Gigante – one of the best Nachos in town, Carnitas Burrito, Carnitas Taco and Chile Verde con Arroz.
